Softball Programs

LYSBA Softball teams will play games as part of the Indian Peaks Girls Softball Association, IPGSA. Games are played with teams from other towns in the area.  Practices and home games will be in Louisville/Superior.  Away games and tournaments may be in Boulder, Niwot, Erie, Longmont, Firestone, and Brighton.

 Geographic Boundary

To be eligible for LYBA recreational league softball teams we are asking that our players meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Live within the cities of Louisville, Superior, East Boulder, Lafayette, or West Broomfield (BVSD)
  2. Attend school within the cities of Louisville, Superior, East Boulder, Lafayette, or West Broomfield (BVSD)
  3. Have previously played within Monarch Little League Softball or LYBA Softball

Softball for the Spring 2023 season will include recreational teams for 8U - 14U.  Competitive teams are offered in 12U - 14U.  In rec, everyone makes a team and has a blast. Comp teams require a tryout, but also have a blast.  Please see the Softball Fall Ball and Softball Spring Season pages for more details.

Tee Ball

LYSBA does not offer tee ball, so we highly recommend that interested tee ballers sign up with Monarch Little League.  It's fantastic for us when our softball players come into the league with tee ball experience.  You can sign up at Monarch Little League.

8U

8 years of age & under. This is a coach pitch division.  Players work on fundamentals.  Rec teams only.

10U

10 years of age & under.  This is the beginning of kid pitch.  Players work on fundamentals and game situations.  Rec teams only.

12U

12 years of age & under.  Players work on higher level position playing and more complex situations.  Rec and comp teams may be formed.

14U

14 years of age & under. Players play with complete college rules including drop 3rd strike, infield fly, & 43 ft. pitching distance.  Rec and comp teams may be formed.

Recreational Division Info

The majority of our teams play in the IPGSA Recreational Division.  We plan to continue with the same goals we've always had for our players:  to learn, have fun, and make friends.   In this division, we strive for fair playing/batting time for everyone.  We are happy to have players of all experience levels.  This is a good league for players working on the fundamentals, as well as more experienced players who prefer the rec division schedule to the more demanding comp schedule.

Players 10U and up can expect to have 2 practices per week beginning in April.  8U teams typically have 1 practice per week.  All age groups will have 1-2 games per week May-June.  Although this is a recreational league, players are expected to attend at least 80% of games and to notify coaches in advance if they cannot attend.

Uniforms, bats, and helmets will be provided.  Players only need to have a softball glove and athletic shoes, cleats are highly recommended.  Pitchers (10U & up) also need to bring their own face mask.  Players may bring their own bat and helmet if desired, helmets must have an attached face mask.

If you would like to register, click Softball Registration here or at the top of the page.  From there you can sign up by selecting 8U, 10U, 12U, or 14U Rec Softball.  Softball Uniform Size Guide is available here.

Competitive Division Info

Competitive teams are formed at the 12U and 14U levels.  Players must have at least 2 seasons of experience to be eligible and must attend a tryout.  If a player cannot attend a tryout date, please contact us and we will work with you.  It is expected that players will already have a solid foundation in the fundamentals, as well as a decent grasp of situations and game play.

Spring Season: Registration cost per player varies by team, but is capped at $600 for the season.  We plan to participate in 4-5 local tournaments including the IPGSA End of Season Tournament. Teams will also play 10-12 regular season games.

Fall Season: Registration cost per player is capped at $220 for the season.  Teams will participate in IPGSA fall ball regular season and possibly in 1 additional tournament.

 Time Commitment

Participating in a competitive team is a much bigger commitment than playing in the recreational division.  Although we know some schedule conflicts are unavoidable, players are expected to be available for most of the tournament season.  Practices and regular season games will be set by the coaches and are not considered optional.

 Tryout Sign Up

You will be able to click Comp Tryout Registration here.  From there you can sign up by selecting 12U or 14U Softball Competitive Tryout.  Official competitive division registration will become available after team selection. Softball Uniform Size Guide is available here.
